Selective H<sub>2</sub>S Absorption in Aqueous Tertiary Alkanolamine Solvents: Experimental Measurements and Quantitative Kinetic Model

In the treatment of many fuel gases such as biogas, natural gas, syngas, and so on, tertiary alkanolamines play an important role in selective removal H2S with respect to CO2. The selectivity might be required for various reasons: more stringent specifications, optimize performance Claus unit, lower cost CO2 capture, on. H2S/CO2 is mainly kinetic and, a lesser extent, thermodynamic. A novel experimental setup has been put place measure time evolution simultaneous absorption results extensive campaign 18 different aqueous alkanolamine solvents (13 mol % amine, 87 H2O) are presented. Although expected very fast proton transfer, significant variation rates thus observed. This could not only explained by pKa or viscosity amines. Therefore, accurate quantitative molecular simulations-based model developed validated. study allowed us better understand origin selectivity, well identify amines higher than MDEA (MethylDiEthanolAmine), standard industrial solvent.
